REMIX | Gray T-Shirt Dress

My apologies for the lack of blogging lately.  The first day of school was this past Tuesday, and anyone who works in a school knows how exhausting that first week back can be.  On top of it, I came down with a nasty cold on Wednesday (yep, the second day of school), which has totally tapped me out.  Kevin has the same cold as well, so we spent all weekend just laying on the couch, drinking water and watching copious amounts of Project Runway.  [Side note: I feel really lucky that I have a partner who doesn't mind - in fact, enjoys - watching Project Runway with me.  It leads to some very interesting discussions about the fashion industry, bodies, etc.  Any other Project Runway fans out there??]  I need to do another round of outfit photos so you can see what I wore during my first week of school, too!  For now, I've got a few more rounds of photos of what I wore this summer.  Today's post features my gray t-shirt dress and three different ways I wore it over the summer.

Dress: Old Navy | Sandals: Target | Necklace: Simonson's Jewelry
I really love how gray, purple, and black look together, so when I wanted an easy outfit for a day at home this summer, I decided to accessorize this dress with my purple pendant necklace and black sandals.  It's very simple, but I liked how I felt in this outfit.  It was great for a hot day!
Dress + Flats: Old Navy | Scarf: Gift from Mom
Typically, when I am looking through my outfit spreadsheets (which have evolved since I first posted back in 2013...), and notice that there's an item that has been neglected, I make it a point to plan a few potential outfits that include that item.  So, when I was doing my most recent closet inventory update, I realized I hadn't worn this scarf in ages, and decided to wear it in an outfit later that week.  Typically, when I wear a scarf with an outfit, I like it to add some contrast to the outfit.  This time, however, I tried out a different look in which the scarf kind of blended into the dress.  I didn't mind how it looked, actually :)
Dress: Old Navy | Shoes: TOMS | Scarf: Gift from Mom
I wish I had taken a close-up of this scarf.  My mom gave it to me on a whim in the spring, and I absolutely adore it.  It fits in with so many things in my closet, and I love how lightweight it is.  I wore this outfit on a random weekday this summer, but I would feel 100% comfortable wearing it to work as well.

I know that so many bloggers have this dress (and in other colors as well), and there are probably so many other exciting ways to wear it, but I just like how much mix and match potential there is!  I've already showed how I've worn my coral version on the blog, and I'm going to do another remix with my black version soon as well.  Remixing for the winnnn!

Black Tee + Jeans: Three Ways

I'm a total sucker for a tee and jeans.  I'm also a fan of accessorizing basics to switch up that look.  Over the summer, I wore this combo several times, but each time with different accessories.
Tee + Sandals: Target | Jeans: Lauren Conrad | Necklace: Eclectic Wendy Designs

This is the most basic you'll see me, I think.  It's really nothing special, but it's easy to wear and makes me feel presentable for running errands, haha.

Tee: Target | Jeans: Lauren Conrad | Scarf: Gift | Flats: TOMS

I adore the way cuffed jeans and flats look together, so this outfit (and the next, for that matter) was one that I really liked all summer.  This scarf might be one of my all-time favorite scarves, because it goes with everything in my closet.  I love how it pops against a solid black tee!

Tee: Target | Jeans: Lauren Conrad | Scarf + Flats: Old Navy

Another scarf + flats outfit, but instead, I went all neutral with this one.  I wore this outfit when I went to a dueling piano bar with my coworkers this summer for 80s night.  I didn't want to go in costume, and I wanted to be casual but still look a little fun.  My leopard scarf is one of the most frequently worn items in my closet and has remained a solid staple for me for several years.  It's a great complement to a black tee.

So, while none of these outfits are earth-shattering, they're a pretty good representation of how I dress in the summers.  I like to be super comfortable but still presentable, and I like to switch up how I style my basics.

Currently | September

I just love these Currently posts with Anne and Jenna.  Be sure to check out the other bloggers who have linked up to see what they've been up to lately!

Reading | I've been reading the book Second Glance, by Jodi Picoult.  I've always enjoyed her books.  They're usually entertaining, and I like her writing style.  I've been reading this as an e-book on my phone, which I'm liking quite a bit.  I can read it on my phone when I'm going to bed or wherever I am out and about.  I haven't been reading as voraciously now that I'm back to work, but I'm making a little bit of progress every day!

Making | I've been making tons of schedule changes and appointments at work!  The first couple of weeks of the school year are always hectic for a school counselor, as we're trying to get everything squared away for our students.  I do love my job, though, and I'm very excited for the first day of school (Tuesday!) so that I can see my students again!

Pinning | You can see here my most recent pins - they really run the gamut from school counseling pins to recipes to book suggestions to exercise routines, and everything in between!  There are a few recipes on my Pinterest boards that I am eager to try - perhaps I'll try one out this month!

Anticipating | I cannot wait for cooler weather to return.  Last week, Minnesota experienced perfect fall weather in the 60s, but we're back up to the upper-80s this week.  I'm really needing it to cool down, since most of my clothes that are work-appropriate are designed for cooler weather.  I already feel like I'm running out of warm-weather work outfit ideas!  Dumb.

Loving | I'm going to be cheesy here for a minute, but whatever.  It's my blog, haha.  I've been loving spending time with Kevin lately.  Now that we've had a few weeks to spend some good quality time together in the evenings and on the weekends due to his new job, I'm just so dang happy about it.  We have so much fun together, whether we're having a serious discussion about social justice (standard dinner conversation around these parts...), working on projects around the house, doing mundane tasks like grocery shopping, or exploring St. Paul.

Monthly Goals | September

Recap | August Goals
1. Get at least 7 hours of sleep every night | I'm a little bit bummed, because I didn't get a solid 7 hours every single night this month, but I do have to say I made huge improvements in my sleeping this month!  I'd say I got at least 7 hours of sleep about 75-80% of the time, which is way better than my track record the rest of the month.  Now that I'm back to work, I've been trying hard to get in bed by 9:00, and it hasn't been too bad!

2. Blog at least twice each week | Hooray!  I blogged 8 times in August, which is approximately twice a week.  I feel good about this goal, and it felt good to post a bit more regularly.

3. Read 1,000 pages in August | I absolutely crushed this goal!  I read well over 1,500 pages in August, which shakes out to 6 complete books.  I'm also currently in the middle of two other books (one audiobook and one e-book).  Since I've been back to work, I haven't been as much of a reading machine - I can only get through a few pages before I fall asleep - but it feels good to continue reading.  And...I'm still planning on putting together a book post.  I just need to write it.

4. Finish painting the kitchen | Yes!  A couple of weekends ago, Kevin and I decided to tackle a bunch of our house projects.  Kevin worked a ton in the yard while I finished painting the kitchen.  It feels so great to finally be done with the awful minty green that covered our kitchen walls!  We are almost done putting our new house together!

5. Set a date for an open house | Nope, we didn't get this done either.  We have discussed our open house, but we haven't set a date yet.  To be completely honest, life has been incredibly busy and we just don't want to talk about planning a party quite yet, haha.  But rest's going to happen.

Not too shabby.  I'm going to give myself a 3.5/5 for accomplishing August's goals :)

September Goals
I only have one goal for this month: Prioritize self-care.  I'm back into the swing of things at work, and that means I need to be much more intentional about how I'm spending my time.  I've been struggling lately a lot with my mental health, as well.  I'm anxious, feeling a bit depressed, and am struggling with feelings of self-consciousness and shitty body image.  Quite frankly, it's been rough.  I need to do whatever I can to continue taking care of myself and improve my mental health.  I'm not 100% sure exactly what steps I'm going to take this month to take care of myself, but I certainly know it's something I deserve and need.

What are your goals for September?

I am also super excited that Nicole, one of my all-time favorite bloggers and the inspiration for my monthly goal posts
