Me Me Me Me

20x30 | The Green Vest

Tank / Vest / Shorts: Old Navy | Sandals: Target | Necklace: From my mom

I cannot sing the praises of my green vest enough...honestly, it is one of my favorite things in my closet!  It seems to go with everything, and it makes all my outfits more polished.  Without the vest, this outfit would be just a boring white tank and black shorts.  But with the vest?  BOOM.  It looks presentable, I feel confident, and it adds a little color to the outfit.

You can see all the ways I've worn this vest here and here. [Looks like I need to clean up my tags a little bit, haha.)

20x30 | A Tender Post...

Top: Gap | Shorts: Old Navy | Sandals: Target | Necklace: Forever 21

When I was in college, I worked as an orientation leader, and then as a student coordinator for orientation.  I had a supervisor who quickly became a mentor of mine, and then a dear, dear friend.  She helped me through some of the biggest struggles I've faced in my life, and I'll forever be grateful for that.  In fact, she even officiated our wedding!

Right before my senior year of college, she and her husband had a baby girl, who I then nannied that whole school year.  We were very close, that little girl and I - I was her Auntie Brynn.  Kevin and I got married 3 weeks after graduation and moved 3 hours away, so I didn't get to see my mentor, her husband, or her daughter very much anymore.

For a year or two, I would come back and visit as often as I could, but it is hard when you live so far away.  5 years later, they have another daughter who just turned two, and I now live only an hour away from them.  My mentor asked if I would babysit the girls this past weekend.  I was so excited to spend time with the girls and see my mentor/friend again.  It was such a wonderful night, playing with the two sweet girls!!  Sigh :)  We ate dinner, walked to the park to play on the playground, and I got to do the same bedtime routine I did with the older daughter when I cared for her as a baby.

It warmed my heart to see bits and pieces of me in their house: the blanket I made for the older daughter as a baby gift draped on the rocker in her room, the "Q" I painted for her hanging on the door of her bedroom (her name starts with "Q"), the blanket I gave to the younger daughter when she was born that she carries with her everywhere, the photo of me and the oldest daughter when she was just a few months old displayed on a shelf with random family photos...  It all just made me so happy.

[And yes, I'm fully aware that I'm a total sap.]

20x30 | Alfalfa

Top: Lucky Brand | Skirt: LOFT | Shoes: TOMS

You may call me...Alfalfa. [See? Twins.]
My skirt is wrinkly - I forgot how quickly and severely linen can wrinkle.
Crocheted TOMS are super comfortable and just as perfect in the heat as sandals.
This shirt has a hole in the arm, and I'm pretty bummed about it.

I'll be linking up with Laura for Confident Twosday, because, well, I feel confident enough to post a photo of me with sweet sticky-uppy hair... ;)

20x30 | Dressing for the Heat + Week 4 Collage

Top: Gap | Skirt: Lucky Brand, thrifted | Sandals: Target

I wrote last week about helping my friend move into her new house in the town next to ours.  A week later, I went back to her house to help her unload and assemble some new Ikea furniture.  We just had to mount a tall storage unit to the wall and put together a new dresser, but it took us forever because we kept screwing up (am I the only one who thinks the wordless instructions can be kind of confusing?!).  Luckily, we were creative in fixing our mistakes and it came together nicely...four hours later... This outfit really wasn't the most practical for putting together furniture, but it was super comfortable for a steamy, hot day.

Dress / Vest: Old Navy | Sneakers / Belt: Target

Another wickedly hot day (like ~100 degrees) called for a breezy, sleeveless dress.  I clearly haven't worn enough of my green vest this challenge (sarcasm alert), so I obviously had to throw it on again, haha.  I think this pink and white striped dress has become one of my favorite things in my closet all because of this challenge.  Seriously, it's so comfortable, quite flattering, and has been surprisingly versatile.  What more could I ask for?!

Here's the collage of this week's looks...these are some of my favorites of the challenge so far...particularly outfits 21, 23, and 24.  I felt wonderful in each of those outfits!!  It's getting down to the wire, so in the last six outfits of the challenge, I'm going to be trying to wear some of the pieces that haven't gotten as much love during the challenge as others, like my navy and white striped shirt and white skirt.

Linking up with Caitlin and the other remixers!

20x30 | Erranding

Dress / Sneakers: Old Navy | Jacket: Levi's | Belt: Target

This outfit wasn't worn for any specific reason at all, even though it's pretty dang cute.  I'm not the kind of person who likes to run errands in yoga pants and an old college tee (even though that's hella comfortable), but I also don't need to be dressed to the nines every single day.  This outfit is a happy medium, don't you think?  I was comfortable for a day of running errands (like making friends with the people at the post office, checking out new documentaries and homesteading books from the library, and getting a buttload of yogurt raisins from our favorite grocery store), but I also didn't feel overdressed by any means.  I may be wearing a dress, but the denim jacket and mint sneakers made the outfit casual and easy.

20x30 | "You're so gold today, Brynn!"

Tank: Old Navy | Cardigan: TJ Maxx | Skirt: Lucky Brand, thrifted | Sandals: Target

I wore this outfit last week, and my nanny girls kept saying, "You're so gold today, Brynn!"  They loved how I was wearing a gold headband, earrings, necklace, and sandals.  It was adorable - they're the sweetest girls and I just love them!  It's been fun getting to know their mom more as well - she's a single mother, working on her doctorate degree, works full-time, and has no family in the state.  WONDER WOMAN!  The day I wore this, I stayed at their house and just hung out with the family for an extra hour and a half...and it was lovely.  I have less than a month left with them until I start working at my new school, which is so bittersweet.  I am really excited for my new job, but I'm really going to miss my girls!!

20x30 | BIKES!

Top: H&M | Shorts: Old Navy | Sandals: Target

I mentioned a few posts ago that Kevin and I got new bikes last week (I got this one, although mine is slightly modified - they had to special order a larger size because I am tall, haha).  Can I just say that I think I've found the perfect form of exercise for me?!  I am loving biking!!  It's seriously such a thrill!  On Saturday, Kevin and I went for a 12-mile ride that was all hills, and half of it was going against the wind.  My legs were burning but I felt so alive, ha!  And yesterday morning, we rode to an adorable little yellow house in the country that's for sale. [Side note: Kevin has been really into the idea of living in a modest house with some acreage so that we can grow a lot of our own food...I kind of love the idea too...any of you grow your own food?]  It was an 18-mile ride, and it was lovely.  I'm typically the kind of person who hates all forms of exercise (except for dance - I looove dancing), so to have found something I love this much is SO exciting!  I'm even going to try to commute to work on my bike once the school year starts...ah!

20x30 | Fall in Summer?

Tee / Sandals: Target | Cardigan : TJ Maxx | Jeans: Old Navy

Here's another outfit for a cool summer day - it felt like fall the day I wore this!  A family friend gave Kevin and me a beautiful and comfortable recliner for our new house, and I wore this outfit the day my mom and grandma came down to bring it to us in their van.  It was my grandma's first time coming to our new house, so it was fun to show her where we're living now.  We tried out a new restaurant together, too, which was delicious!  It can be kind of intimidating to move to a new town, but trying out all the local restaurants, visiting local parks, finding the best grocery store, etc. is all so exciting!

20x30 | Pink Cardigan x2 + Week 3 Collage

Shirt / Shorts: Old Navy | Cardigan: Eddie Bauer, thrifted | Sandals: Target

One of my best friends from grad school got a school counseling job just 15 minutes from me (!!), and she recently moved to her new town.  Kevin and I helped her move and get settled into her apartment the day I wore this outfit, which was a blast.  She has twin 13-year-old brothers who were there as well, and they were cracking us up the whole afternoon.  I'm so happy to have a good friend living so close to me now!
Tee / Jeans: Old Navy / Cardigan: Eddie Bauer, thrifted / Sneakers: Payless | Necklace: Eclectic Wendy Designs's another nannying outfit!  We had a random cool spell in Minnesota last week, so I wore this outfit on a 63-degree day!  It was perfectly comfortable for the cool day of relaxing, reading, and watching Harry Potter movies with my nanny girls.  I tried out the mint + pink color combination again (and wore the same pink cardigan two days in a row, which I never do...) and really liked the outfit.  The floral sneakers really tie the whole outfit together, don't you think??

Here is a collage of the third week of outfits for the 20x30 challenge!  I can't believe I'm over halfway done with the challenge already - I'm still enjoying getting dressed with such a small number of things.  I think my favorite outfits in this chunk are #13 + #14 - they just felt very true to my style, and they both feature some of my favorite things.

I'll be linking up with Caitlin and the other remixers, and Andi for Shorts Week!

20x30 | Stripes...

Dress / Vest: Old Navy | Belt / Sandals: Target

This is another nanny-approved outfit - my girls thought it was so cute, ha!  I think it's adorable when they comment on what I'm wearing.  All three girls are very into clothing and have their own distinct styles, even though it often doesn't look like they gave much thought into what they're's super cute.

After nannying, I went to the mall with my best friend to help her pick out some clothes for an upcoming trip to Atlanta.  She doesn't have many "day dresses," so we focused on finding some that would be comfortable for her in the heat.  We went to H&M and Gap, and while we found some great things that would look amazing on her, she was really resistant to try anything with horizontal stripes because she was afraid they'd make her look fat.  It suuuper bummed me out, because A) she has a fantastic figure and is beautiful, and B) fashion rules suck.  I told her that I used to subscribe to that rule as well, but thinking that horizontal stripes would be unflattering on me was kind of tiring.  I love the look of stripes, so I decided to just wear them, damnit!  As long as the item fits and is flattering on you, the pattern shouldn't make a difference.

Are there any fashion rules that you reject??

20x30 | Pixie Shorts

Top / Sandals: Target | Shorts: Old Navy | Necklace: Forever 21

I can't say enough good things about these Pixie shorts, y'all.  They are so comfortable, the perfect length, and they hold their shape great throughout the day.  I wish they had had more colors in my size when I bought them!  It's not easy for me to find shorts that I like, that fit, and that make me feel confident, so when I do, it's a treat, ha!

I know this outfit, like many of my others, is pretty simple, but I liked it well enough anyways.  The lace shirt, gold and pink beaded necklace, gold sandals, and gold earrings all made the outfit look polished and put together.  What more could I ask for, really?

Linking up with Bri for Third Thursday Threads!

20x30 | Outfit Winner & BIKES!

Dress / Flats: Old Navy | Jacket: Levi's | Belt: Target

I took this photo in the rain...can you see the raindrops in front of my face?  Hahaha.  In all seriousness, though, I really loved wearing this outfit.  It felt very "me!"  I feel like lately, I've had a lot more of those "me" outfits, which feels fantastic.  I'm finally starting to have a more defined sense of style.

I wore this outfit on a day off of working and nannying, and Kevin and I spent the day together running errands, eating Chipotle ( bean tacos!), and testing out new bikes.  Our bikes got stolen several years ago, and after taking our family bike ride on the 4th of July, we realized just how much we missed biking together.  We made room in our budget to buy two nice, new bikes.  I ordered mine yesterday and should have it by the end of the week!  I'm so excited!!!

20x30 | Floral Sneakers!

Top: Old Navy | Skirt: LOFT | Shoes: Payless

I don't think I'll ever stop loving sneakers - they're so comfortable and I love the casual and relaxed vibe they bring to my outfits.  I have had these floral sneakers for a few months now, but haven't worn them out and about yet!  I really wanted to plan an outfit during the 20x30 remix for these shoes...and this is what I came up with.  And I kind of love it.

20x30 | Another Vested Outfit, My Favorite Skirt 2.0, + Week 2 Collage

Tee / Shorts / Vest: Old Navy | Sandals: Target

There's not much to say about this outfit, except for the fact that it was incredibly comfortable and perfect for work.  I also have to point out that I took this photo right after a rain storm - isn't the sky cool behind me?  In person, it was much darker in parts, but I love the sun peeking through in the left side of the shot.  Sigh, I love nature.

Tank: Old Navy | Jacket: Levi's | Skirt: Lucky Brand, thrifted | Sandals: Target | Necklace: oNecklace

Here's a crappy picture of an outfit that I really liked!  It features my favorite skirt again, and the 20x30 denim jacket + white tank debut.  At this point in the challenge, I've worn each of my 20 items at least once.  Not too shabby!
This round of outfits is pretty simple, but I'm actually quite alright with that.  I've really been enjoying putting together simpler outfits - no muss, no fuss, right??  I also want to point out that the first four outfits in this collage were worn when I was spending the long weekend at Kevin's parent's house (although I took my outfit photos ahead of time).  I'd do a packing post, but you can just look at what I packed & wore here, haha.

Like last Monday, I'll be linking up with Caitlin and the other 20x30 remixers today!

20x30 | Color Boundaries

Tee: H&M | Cardigan: TJ Maxx | Shorts: Old Navy | Sandals: Target

So, most of the time when I wear coral, I pair it with black or white.  I adore how coral looks with neutral colors (and most of what I own is neutral anyhow), but for the sake of the challenge, I decided to try pairing coral with another color: light pink/blush.  I wound up really liking the color combination, and I felt like a secret badass for pushing my own color boundaries (clearly, I'm a very tame person if wearing coral and pink together makes me feel BA).  As much as I liked the colors together, though, wearing this top and cardigan together just doesn't work for me.  I feel like the neckline on this shirt is too high for the v-neck style of my cardigan, so it looks really awkward.  Oh well!  The point of a remix challenge like this is to try new things, and now I know not to wear these two things together again, ha!

20x30 | Windy

Top / Shorts: Old Navy | Sneakers: Payless | Necklace: Eclectic Wendy Designs

This is no surprise to any of you who take their blog photos outdoors, but on windy days, it is next to impossible to get a decent picture of your outfit without looking like you're being blown away.  Today's photo features a dramatically wind-swept blouse, haha!  I assure you that if I had hair that wasn't 2 inches long, it would have been all over the place :)

Last week, I showed you one of my favorite summer outfit combinations - a blouse and shorts - and assured you that I'd be showing off the look again during the challenge.  Whereas I was wearing my black Pixie shorts in the last outfit, I'm wearing my regular blue denim shorts in this one...but due to the placement of the sun (aka, I'm standing in a huge shadow), you can't tell that these shorts aren't black at all...whoops!

20x30 | A Casual 4th

Tee: Lucky Brand, thrifted | Shorts: Old Navy | Sneakers: Payless

Headband: Gift | Earrings: Made by my sweet friend Inge!

This is what I actually wore on the 4th of July - I wanted to be comfortable and casual for our laid back day.  I think this navy/white striped shirt and denim shorts did the trick!  I also am wearing a fantastic pair of earrings that Inge, from This Ever Evolving Life, made for me!  I really love these earrings - they were perfectly patriotic for the occasion :)

I've been so exhausted lately from working at my high school and nannying, so I apologize for not being as active with blogging.  I'm hoping that I'll get to catch up on reading all your blogs and responding to comments this Friday!  As always, thank you for reading!!

20x30 | Dorky

Tee / Jeans: Old Navy | Sandals: Target | Necklace: Maurices

Hahaha, everything about this outfit makes me feel like a dork.  My hair is sticking up weird, nothing really "goes" together, my arms are awkwardly hanging by my side, my shirt fits me's just one of those photos that makes me laugh (and cringe, but whatever...).  When coming up with outfit combinations for my 20x30 challenge, I knew I needed to strike a balance between outfits for a typical day, outfits for working at my new high school, and outfits that I could wear while nannying...and this was one of the "nannying" outfits.  It's a no-nonsense outfit, and I like the blush necklace and mint tee together, but it's somehow kind of disjointed.  Oh well - the girls I nanny loved my necklace, so I can count that as a win, right?

20x30 | Work Outfits & A 20x30 Week 1 Collage

Dress / Sandals: Old Navy | Cardigan: Eddie Bauer, thrifted | Necklace: Maurices

Shirt: Target | Vest / Jeans: Old Navy | Flats: Payless | Necklace: From my mom

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!  Kevin and I had a great long weekend, hanging out with his parents and brothers.  Kevin's grandparents brought their bikes over for us to ride for the weekend, so we went on a great, long bike ride (PS. Isn't it awesome that Kevin's grandparents, in their late 70s, still ride bikes?!  I want to be like that when I get older!).  We also played badminton, had minnow races, took our dogs to the dog park to wear them out, and played a ton of games.  A great weekend, to be sure :)

I wore these two outfits last week when I went to my new school to work for a couple of days.  As a high school counselor, I'm busy getting schedules set up for all of my students (I have about 400 students on my caseload), to make sure that they have the classes they need, that things are in the right order, and that seniors are on track to graduate.  It's such a puzzle to get everything to fit, and I love the challenge.  This week, I'll be back at the high school to plan out the year's worth of college and career lessons.  I'm so excited to be doing actual work for my job!!

Also, I'll be linking up my first 6 outfits of the 20x30 challenge with Caitlin today.  Here's a collage of my outfits!  Which one is your favorite of the week?

20x30 | Easy Does It

Shirt: Gap | Shorts: Old Navy | Sandals: Target | Necklace: From my mom

Happy 4th of July, to all who celebrate!  We are spending our day at Kevin's parent's house, swimming, grilling, playing with the dogs, playing midnight badminton, and lighting firecrackers :)  It's been a tradition of ours for years, and it's one of my favorite ways to celebrate the day!  Since we don't have any formal vacations planned this summer, we are having an extended long weekend staycation at their house (spoiler alert, we've been here since Wednesday...)!  How are you all planning to celebrate the day?

One of my favorite summer outfits is a pair of shorts and a button up with the sleeves rolled.  There's something so easy and effortless about the look that I love, and since I included two such tops in my 20x30 items, this isn't the last time you'll see an outfit like this during July!  I wore this outfit when I nannied my girls earlier this week, and it was perfect for our day of playing games, romping out in the yard, drawing pictures, and giggling together :)

20x30 | Mint Bookends

Tee / Shoes: Old Navy | Skirt: LOFT | Scarf: Kohls

So...I try hard not to be super matchy-matchy, but I couldn't resist today!  I had already had on my mint sneakers to add a little color to this black and white tee and (wrinkly) white skirt, and instead of putting on a necklace, I decided to wear my mint scarf.  One thing I really love about wearing neutral pieces is that they look so different depending on how you accessorize them!  As I culled my closet, I tried hard to focus on keeping the neutral pieces with a few splashes of color (blues and pinks, mainly).  I still have a fair amount of colorful accessories as well, but as far as actual clothing pieces?  The vast majority is neutral, and I love it.

Also, I cannot get over how beautiful the sky looks here - I didn't edit this photo at's a straight out of the camera shot :)  I may be a city girl at heart, but this more rural area is so pretty!

20x30 | My Favorite Skirt

Tee / Sandals: Target | Skirt: Lucky Brand, thrifted | Necklace: Eclectic Wendy Designs

Day two of the remix challenge, and I'm in my favorite skirt!  It's sitting a little wonky in this photo (as is my necklace), but I don't really care at all.  This skirt is wicked comfortable, super flowy, not see-through, has pockets, has fantastic colors...and cost me next-to-nothing since I thrifted it!  I'm in love <3

20x30 | Gray & Navy

Dress: Old Navy | Belt: Target | Necklace: Forever 21 | Shoes: TOMS

It's the first day of my 20x30 remix challenge with Greater Than Rubies!  Whereas in past remix challenges, I've tried to blog each outfit in a separate post, I'm not going to be as strict about posting 30 days in a row.  There might be some days I don't blog...there might be some days that I blog more than one outfit in a post.  Just know that I am wearing each and every one of these outfits each day!!  Also, Kevin and I are going to be spending a few days at his parents' house over the 4th of July, so I'll be photographing those outfits ahead of time so I don't need to bother with outfit photos while we're enjoying our staycation, haha.

Today's outfit is fairly simple.  It's been hot and humid (heyyy summer!), and I knew that this casual striped dress would help me stay nice and cool in the heat!  The last time I blogged about this dress, I paired it with my pink cardigan (which is also one of my 20 items!), but today, I decided to use navy accessories.  I liked the outfit enough - it is the first time I've worn this dress without a layer over it.  Since the back is pretty low, I felt a little exposed, but it didn't bother me as much as I thought it would.
