Me Me Me Me

Budgeting Bloggers - January

Okay, so I majorly failed again at not shopping in January.  Honestly, though, the things that I picked up are going to be fantastic additions to my closet.  Most of what I got are cardigans and oxford button up shirts, all of which I wear year-round.  I absolutely would not have gone to spend any money at all, but I got a bunch of SuperCash and had some Old Navy rewards that were going to expire, so I decided to take advantage of them.'s what I bought...and everything is from Old Navy (typical).

  • Floral blouse, $5 - I've been looking for some more printed button ups to layer underneath cardigans and sweaters.  This one fit the bill!
  • Striped denim oxford, $15 - I just really liked how thick this was, and the stripes are perfect on their own or for pattern mixing.
  • Green oxford, $5 - I had this in my online shopping cart forever, and was really sad when it went out of stock.  Then, when I was in Old Navy with Kevin picking up some things for him, I swung by the clearance and found this shirt - the only one left, and in my size...for $5.  I was so excited!
  • Red polka dot oxford, $15 - Again, I've been looking for printed button ups, and I love the colors on this one.  These Old Navy oxfords fit me so well!
  • White and navy polka dot oxford, $15 - Same as the red one.
  • White boyfriend cardigan, $13 - As much as I love my tan boyfriend cardigan, I knew I wanted to use my SuperCash on a new cardigan or two.  I picked up two, and I can't wait to wear them as much as I wear my tan one!
  • Navy boyfriend cardigan, $28 - See above.
  • Gray sweater, $10 - I bought this sweater when I was in Charlotte visiting my friend Casey, and I can't wait to finally wear it now that I am done with the 30x30 remix!
  • Chambray shirt, $15 - I had a chambray shirt for about two years that I literally wore holes into.  I got this one as a replacement.  I ordered it in a Tall so that the sleeves and torso won't shrink.
  • Maroon ponte dress, $7 (maroon not available online anymore) - Like the green oxford I talked about above, this is another piece that I had in my online shopping cart for such a long time, until it sold out before I could buy it.  On the same trip as when I got the green oxford, I happened to see this dress on the rack...again, the only one and in my size.  The cashier who rung me up told me that it had just come in earlier that day as an online return.  If that's not fate, I don't know what is.
  • Diva skinny ankle jeans, $29 - Okay, now these, I'm a little on the fence about.  They are just ever-so-slightly too big.  I think I can take them in just a little bit so that they will be a better fit, because the size down is too tight.  I love how they fit me otherwise, though, and they are perfect "work denim" - AKA, they don't really look like jeans so are perfectly acceptable to wear to my work and internships.  I'll see what I can work out, but if I don't think they'll work or if I don't want to get them taken in, then I'll return them.
The grand total for this month before any rewards is $157...and after taking out my rewards, discount from an online code, and SuperCash, I spent a total of $67 out of pocket.  Yep.  Pretty freaking awesome.  And I know that all these things are going to get so much use.

I was organizing my closet this past week, and I had to stop and smile about how happy I am with how my style has evolved.  I love all the pieces in my closet and I get so inspired when I look at what I have.  It's a pretty great place to be in.  That being said, I'm feeling really determined to actually stick to a no-shopping month in February.  Honestly, I have everything that I could possibly want and need for a long time.  I'm not going to be tempted to buy anything with SuperCash, and I don't have any rewards that are tempting me either.  I feel settled in my closet and ready to remix the crap out of what I already have.  Here we go, February!

30x30: Grand Finale!

Shirt: Old Navy Skirt / Scarf / Tights: Target Boots: Guess

Woo!  I successfully finished my second 30x30!  I really like today's outfit, as well.  It's probably because this skirt is one of the most perfect things in my closet and I feel like it goes with so many things!  While the scarf that I'm wearing doesn't really "match" with the skirt, I do feel like it "goes" with the outfit and gives it a nice bit of interest.  Do you ever make a distinction between things that "go" with an outfit versus things that "match" the outfit?  or am I just weird?

I'll be posting my January budget tomorrow and a recap/reflection post about the 30x30 experience on Monday!

30x30: Neutral Fail - Again

Sweater: Old Navy Skirt: Bettie Page Tights: Target Booties: Payless Scarf: Hand-me-down from Mom

Today's outfit is similar to this one that I really didn't like...and I'm not loving this outfit, either.  I think it's because this skirt really looks better when it is paired with color rather than just neutrals.  For instance, in this outfit, I wore this skirt with purple and mint, and in this outfit, I kept the outfit in a gray scale but added my purple tights for a pop of color.  I liked both of those outfits much better than this one and the previous all neutral outfit that I linked to above.  Hmm.  I do have to say, though, that I loved wearing my fleece-lined leggings with this outfit.  They are perfect for keeping my legs warm in the stinging cold we've been experiencing here in Minnesota over the past few days (or all month, really...).

30x30: Studs on Studs

Shirt: Gap Cardigan / Pants: Kohls Boots / Belt / Headband: Target

I love the studs on this belt!

Since there are only two more days left in the 30x30 challenge (!!!), I decided to take an inventory on how often each of my pieces has been worn in the challenge so far.  My black blouse has only been worn once during the challenge and I wanted to give it just a little more love before the 30 days are up.  I have to admit that the belt was a last minute addition, but I am so glad I added it!  I feel like it adds so much to the outfits, and I like that the studs on the belt reflect the black studs on my shirt (which you can see in more detail here).  When I first planned this outfit, I thought it would be kind of a dud, but after seeing it in photos and seeing how it looks with the belt, I actually really like it!

30x30: Crossroads

Shirt / Jeans / Flats: Old Navy Jacket: JCPenney Necklace: Maurice's

We're in the middle of another polar vortex, and our university actually closed for the day (and we never close!).  Luckily for me, this means I get another bonus day to work on homework and projects.  I do have to say, though, I am getting really sick of all this wicked cold, the blizzard conditions, and the snow.  It is frustrating how it keeps interfering with my work, school, and internship.  I know that every place in the country has their own undesirable weather conditions, but I'm starting to feel the itch to try out another place for a while.  As my graduation date approaches (in May!) and both Kevin and I find ourselves in a big crossroads in our careers and education, I've been spending a ton of time lately thinking about what I want next.  Spending a few years in another state/region of the country before we have a child would be a really cool experience - so nerve-racking, but I think it would be incredibly rewarding.  Have any of you moved away from "home" before?  What are some things you love about it?  Things you don't like about it?  I'm just trying to sort things out, and any or all of your input would be greatly appreciated!

30x30: Matchy Matchy

Shirt / Cardigan / Jeans / Flats / Headband: Old Navy Necklace: Hand-me-down from Mom

Dang, another nearly head-to-toe Old Navy look, ha!  When I first got this shirt, I immediately thought of this necklace and knew that I wanted to wear them together some time.  Well, when I was getting dressed and looking for an accessory to make this outfit "pop," I remembered this necklace.  I think it looks pretty darn cute with the outfit, even though it is a little matchy matchy!

Also, I cannot believe there are just four more days of the 30x30 challenge!  It has gone super fast, and I can tell that I'm losing a little bit of steam.  My outfits have been a little on the bland side lately.  While I still love all my items, I am really looking forward to getting to wear the rest of my clothes as well...especially some of the new pieces I've picked up!

30x30: Outfit Completer

Sweater: Target, thrifted new Jeans / Flats: Old Navy Jacket / Scarf: JCPenney

I really like how Audrey refers to things like vests, blazers, and cardigans as "outfit completers."  She's absolutely right that these kinds of pieces often take an outfit to the next level.  This outfit, for example, is otherwise just a pair of jeans, a sweater, and a scarf.  The addition of the jacket, however, brings in another color and gives the outfit a more casual vibe than just the sweater and jeans.  I'm so happy I found this jacket - it really is the perfect outfit completer for me and I can't seem to stop wearing it!

30x30: Silver Lining

Shirt: Old Navy Blazer: Gap Pants / Shoes: Kohls

Today's outfit is another one that I'm not really a fan of.  It looked a lot cuter in my head than it does in person, I think.  I wonder if I would like it better with boots?  With a scarf or a statement necklace?  With the shirt untucked?  Even though I don't like how it looks, I still think it was super comfortable.  These gray ponte pants are so comfy and I love how they feel on me!  I suppose that's the silver lining of a "blah" outfit.

30x30 + Pinned It and Did It: Another Day Off

Shirt: The Limited, thrifted Cardigan / Pants: Old Navy Booties: Payless Scarf: Gift

Today, we're experiencing another ridiculously cold day with windchills around -45 degrees.  Many school districts (including mine) have closed schools for the day, so that means I have another unexpected day off!  I'm feeling a little conflicted about it.  On the one hand, I'm bummed I'm going to miss seeing my kiddos until next week and I need the internship hours, but on the other hand, I have a bonus homework day (which is already much needed).  Oh, Minnesota, you're so unpredictable!

The outfit for today is inspired partially by this pin.  I fell in love with coral over the summer, and pinned a ton of outfits featuring coral pieces.  I really loved how the coral and khaki looked together in the inspiration pin, so I decided to put together a winter outfit based on its colors.

I'm just going to talk for a minute about this cardigan, if that's alright.  So, I resisted buying any boyfriend cardigans forever because I thought I wouldn't like how they looked on me.  Boy, was I wrong.  I adore this cardigan!  It's a great weight, length, and fit for me, and the color is so versatile.  Now I have a confession to make.  So, I have been doing great at not shopping in January, but I happened to have some SuperCash that I got from post-Christmas shopping (plus my sister-in-law's SuperCash that she didn't think she'd be able to use...) plus some rewards to use at Old Navy.  Instead of letting them go to waste, I ordered a couple more of these cardigans in other colors as well as a few button-up shirts (I've tried so many button-ups, but Old Navy's are by far my favorite!) for a steal.  I'm proud of myself for limiting my purchases to only things that will be workhorses in my wardrobe, and for taking advantage of all the SuperCash and rewards!

30x30: Print Inspiration

Dress / Cardigan: Old Navy Boots / Tights / Belt: Target Necklace / Earrings: From my mom

A long time ago, I had this beautiful dress from H&M.  It was navy blue and it had a gorgeous black floral pattern all over it.  I had never thought of navy and black going together until seeing the print on the dress.  I've since outgrown the dress (but I'm hanging onto it just in case I can ever fit into it again - it's the only piece of clothing that I am holding onto "just in case" because I love it so much!), but I am still smitten with its beautiful print.  I thought I would try to recreate the feel of the dress by pairing black and navy together.  I decided to add a little bit of gray into the outfit as well with my gray cardigan and gray and black polka dot tights.  While navy and black together is not something that everyone can embrace, I actually really liked how it looks together.  I figure, if people are wearing black and brown together these days, why not black and navy?

30x30: Tried and True

Shirt / Jeans / Flats: Old Navy Blazer: Gap Scarf: JCPenney Earrings: Hand me down

I don't have much to say today, other than the fact that I love the look of skinny jeans, flats, and a blazer.  Is there anything easier or more put together??  I think not.  I'm wearing one of my favorite color combinations again: tan and navy.  I just really love neutrals, okay??

30x30: Purple On Purple

Shirt / Pants: Old Navy Vest: Christopher & Banks, thrifted Shoes: Kohls

Back in November, Marissa wore an outfit with a deep purple blouse and a lavender cardigan (see the outfit here).  I really loved how the purples looked together, so I decided to try my hand at recreating it with my 30x30 items.  While I like Marissa's outfit better, I do really like how the colors of the shirt and vest look together.  It makes me wonder how this vest would look with my lavender sweater...hmmm...

Thank you all for your sweet comments on my video from yesterday's post!  I was feeling really nervous to post it - sweaty hands and everything - but the feedback I've gotten on it has been so encouraging!  I would like to start recording more videos in the future (not too many, I don't want to overdo it!).  I think it will help my confidence, and it is great vocal practice, too!  If I were to post the occasional singing video on the blog, would you be alright with that?

30x30: An Outfit and a Song

Shirt: Gap, hand me down Cardigan / Headband: Target Jeans: Old Navy Flats: Kohls

A detailed shot so you can see the studs on my blouse, my earrings, and my headband a little better!

I needed a simple little outfit to wear yesterday, and I haven't worn this studded blouse yet during the 30x30 this is what I put together.  I wanted to bring some color into the outfit, so I added my teal floral headband and a pair of teal earrings for the pop.  It was a great outfit for a Saturday at home!

I've mentioned before on my blog that I love to sing, but I've never actually shared my singing with y'all.  Yesterday afternoon, I decided I was going to make a video of myself singing, and I want to share it with you all.  See, I am usually a pretty introverted, timid person, and I generally get embarrassed about sharing my voice with other people.  I'm working hard on becoming a bolder and more confident person, however, so I am being vulnerable and brave and posting the video here.  The song is called "Blue Wind" and it is from my all-time favorite musical, Spring Awakening.  Enjoy!

30x30: Layered Without Bulk

Sweater / Jeans / Flats: Old Navy Blazer: Gap Scarf: Target

I wore this outfit to my internship yesterday.  I knew that I wanted to be cozy and warm (particularly since I really felt adamant about wearing flats without any socks...), so I thought I'd layer my camel sweater underneath my navy blazer.  The look was surprisingly comfortable, and I was pleasantly surprised with how not-bulky I felt wearing a sweater and a blazer.  Also, I can't believe that I'm over halfway through this 30x30 challenge and haven't worn my blazer yet!  Crazy!

30x30: Details

Dress / Belt / Tights: Target Cardigan: Kohls Boots: Guess Necklace: Gift

Two days ago, I posted an outfit, and my sweet blogging friend Heidi asked me if I would mind taking some detail shots.  It's something I've done from time to time before, but I always forget to take them regularly!  With Heidi's comments in my mind, I decided to take a few detailed shots of my outfit, specifically of my leopard print tights and my necklace.  I enjoyed wearing this outfit because, although it is simple, it has some color, pattern, and shine that make it interesting!

Since Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I do not have class, work, or internship, so I'm very excited to have a three-day weekend!  I don't really have any plans - mostly to get a head start on some of my big projects for this semester, plan some activities to do with my students, and hang out with Kevin.  I'm sure we'll play some more board games, since we've been so into them lately!  Do any of you have any big weekend plans?

30x30: Flop

Shirt: Old Navy Skirt: Bettie Page Scarf: Kohls Tights: Target Booties: Payless

Dang it, you guys.  I really don't think I like this outfit.  I think I would like it a heck of a lot better if I wasn't wearing these brown tights.  I think they look pretty gross with my gray skirt, and the whole outfit looks kind of choppy and pieced together.  Oh well!  I haven't posted a lot of outfit duds on my blog, but I want to be authentic with you all and show you what I'm wearing, regardless of how I feel about the outfit.

I wanted to thank you all for your sweet comments on my one year anniversary post a couple of days ago!  Your comments, tweets, emails, etc. are huge motivators for me, and I thank you all for being a part of my blogging journey!

30x30: Navy & Gray

Shirt / Cardigan: Old Navy Skirt / Tights: Target Necklace: Forever 21 Flats: Kohls

Since realizing how much I prefer wearing fuller skirts, I have realized that most of my recent favorite outfits feature this silhouette.  Not only is it very flattering on me, but it's comfortable and cute as well.  I've always really loved how navy and gray look together, and so putting this outfit together was an obvious combination for me.  To bring out the navy stripes in my skirt, I added a navy necklace, navy earrings, and a navy headband.  I'm a huge fan of how this turned out - what do you think??

30x30: One Year

Dress / Belt: Old Navy Cardigan / Tights / Boots: Target

Today is my 1-year blogging anniversary!  I'm so excited to have made it through the first year!  I recently went back through my blog from the very beginning, and it was really fun to see how far I've come (check out my first outfit post for some good laughs) in all areas of my blog.

Here are a few stats from my first year of blogging:
  • I have published 253 posts.
  • I have guest posted for four different bloggers.
  • I have completed one full 30x30 remix challenge and am in the midst of my second.
  • I have also participated in several other blogging challenges and link ups, including 5 Days, Five Ways, Pinned It and Did It, One Piece Many Ways, and my own (sporadic) series of Plain to Polished.
  • I have spent far too much money on clothing, but have reflected a ton on my spending and am definitely feeling a change for the better.
  • I have shared the blog with only about five people in my personal life...and I'm completely fine with keeping it that way for now, too!
Blogging has been great for me for so many reasons.  It has helped me to explore my personal style and given me a place to document my outfits.  Blogging has given me a creative outlet and hobby that I've become so passionate about.  I've also met some fantastic women through blogging, which has been probably the most unexpected but wonderful thing about the whole process!  I just want to thank all of you for following along and supporting me along the way - your comments, emails, tweets, etc. mean so much to me, and they are what keep me motivated to keep blogging.  I am excited to see what happens with this little hobby of mine over the next year!

30x30: The Last First Day

Shirt: The Limited, thrifted Jacket: JCPenney Jeans / Flats: Old Navy Cowl: Made by my aunt

Happy Monday!  It is the first day of my last semester of my Masters program, and I am experiencing mixed feelings about it.  On the one hand, I love pretty much everything about being in school: learning, reading books, writing papers, having discussions, etc.  I have grown close to some of my classmates and I adore my professors.  On the other hand, though, I'm getting worn down from all the demands in my life right now.  I'm tired of not making money, and I'm eager to start working again instead of being "the intern."  I know that this semester will go just as fast as last semester (if not faster), and I'm eager to take it on!

I really loved this outfit, y'all.  I wore it yesterday, when it happened to be 41 degrees in Minnesota!  After our incredibly cold start to the week, I was pretty surprised by how warm it was.  Kevin and I ran some errands, and I wore this while I was out and about, and I never got cold.  I am so happy I found this jacket - it's been hard to not want to wear it every day.  I'm still very much on a neutrals kick, and all of the neutrals in this outfit are just so "me!"

I hope you all had a great weekend!  I can't believe we're already 13 days into the 30x30 challenge.  It has gone so fast, and I'm glad to report that I'm still going strong and am not sick of any of my items yet!

30x30: Gray, Mustard, and Pandemic

Shirt: Old Navy Cardigan / Pants: Kohls Boots: Target Necklace: From my mom

This outfit looked so much better in real life than it does in this photo.  First of all, I took the photo in the afternoon, so the cardigan got kind of stretched out and my hair is kind of a mess - oops.  Also, my pants are actually a really nice charcoal gray, not black, like they look in the photo here.  I really like how gray and mustard look together, and I was excited to pair this comfortable gray and white striped shirt with my mustard cardigan.  It was the perfect outfit to wear for a game day with my parents and Kevin!  Have any of you played the game Pandemic?  Kev and I played it with some friends for the first time back in August, but we still love it and play it as often as we can with each other!  We went out yesterday afternoon and bought one of the expansion packs...and proceeded to play it all afternoon and evening!  We're such nerds :)

30x30: INFJ

Shirt / Pants: Old Navy Jacket: JCPenney Booties: Payless Necklace: oNecklace

I'm so glad it is the weekend!  I start my last semester of grad school on Monday (!!!), and I'm going to be soaking up this weekend!  Today, my parents are coming to visit Kevin and me for lunch and a game day.  It will be nice to have them hang out, play games, and get to spend time with us and our pups.

I wore this outfit yesterday (I've been posting my 30x30 outfits one day after I wear them), and it was a perfect outfit for a casual Friday at my internship.  My supervisor and I spent most of the day doing personality assessments and college/career exploration with high school juniors all day.  I'm a huge Myers Briggs fan, and the personality assessment we delivered was adapted from that assessment.  I'm an INFJ, which fits me pretty darn perfectly.  Have any of you taken the Myers Briggs personality assessment before?  What is your type?

30x30: Leopard and Navy

Dress / Cardigan / Scarf: Old Navy Tights: Target Booties: Payless

I wore this outfit yesterday, on my first day back at my high school internship.  I was excited to try these new ankle booties out with a dress, and I really like the look.  I have also been eager to try out wearing navy and leopard together since seeing this pin.  It never occurred to me to pair them together, since leopard print is brown and black, and I'm on the fence about navy and black together.  However, I think it totally works, and I loved this outfit!

I know that I'm a day late, but I'm going to be linking up with Heather for the first Pinned It and Did It of the year!

30x30: Car Trouble

Sweater: Target, thrifted new Skirt: Bettie Page Boots / Tights: Target Scarf: JCPenney

This outfit is kind of random, but I really like it.  Last time I wore this sweater, I wore it with a mint blouse underneath and loved how the purple and mint looked together.  So, being the creative person I am (ha!), I decided to wear this mint scarf with the sweater this time!  I kept the bottom half of the outfit simple with my gray skirt, black tights, and black boots.

In non-outfit-related news, I'm currently in the midst of some car trouble.  I mentioned a couple of days ago that my car battery had died and it took an hour and a half to get it started again.  Well, it died again, and now I need to get a new battery.  Bummer!  To be fair, my car is a 2007 and it still has the original battery.  I tend to get ridiculously annoyed when my car has troubles, so I'm eager to get everything checked out and squared away so I can put it behind me!

30x30: A Dress and a "Cold" Day

Dress / Cardigan / Tights / Boots / Belt: Target Scarf: Gift from my friend

I was all geared up to go to my internship in this outfit, but it turned out that school was canceled for my internship site again due to the cold weather.  So instead of hanging out with elementary school kiddos all day, I snuggled with my dogs, read blogs, and watched copious amounts of trashy reality TV on my computer all day.  I felt excessively dressed up for such a lazy day, but I was so comfortable in my fleece-lined tights!

30x30: Piling on the Layers

Shirt / Cardigan / Jeans: Old Navy Vest: Christopher & Banks, thrifted Flats: Kohls

Holy cow, y'all.  It is so cold in Minnesota.  I flew in from Charlotte on Sunday night and wound up staying at my parents' house in Minneapolis overnight.  When I woke up on Monday morning to head back to my place, my car wouldn't start!  It took an hour and a half and three different vehicles to get my car running again - yuck!  The whole time it was -22 degrees and the wind chill made it feel like -58 degrees.  GROSS.  Luckily, I made it back to my home safely, and I'm feeling so grateful to have a warm place to sleep at night.

This outfit was kind of thrown together, to be honest.  I knew I wanted to dress in layers since it is so cold outside, so I just kept adding pieces.  I've never worn a vest with a cardigan before, and I'm not 100% sold on the look, to be honest.  I do, however, love the combination of purple and gray...which I also wore yesterday, ha!

30x30: Goofballs in Gray

Shirt: Old Navy Skirt: Bettie Page Tights / Boots: Target Necklace: Forever 21

It's Day 6 of the 30x30 challenge!  I liked this outfit because it was casual, and I loved how the gray and white striped shirt looked with the dark gray skirt.  For a little pop of color, I added my purple tights (which kind of look blackish in the photos, oops).  I've been a little unsure about wearing a plain long-sleeved tee without layering it, but I think it worked out just fine in this outfit!

While I was taking outfit photos, Kevin was totally teasing me about posing.  He asked if I would show him how to use the timer app I use, and when I left the room for a minute, he had taken the two photos below on the right.  I was laughing so hard at him and his posing.  He said we should take one more together, so that's what the left photo is.  We're lucky we found each other - we're pretty ridiculous!

30x30: Plane Ride, Part II

Sweater / Jeans: Old Navy Jacket: JCPenney Boots: Guess Scarf: Gift from my parents

[I'm on my way back to Minnesota from Charlotte today, but I took my outfit photos before I left.  When I return, I'll be doing a recap of my trip!]

Here is my final outfit of what I wore when I was in Charlotte this weekend, visiting my friend Casey! I mentioned a couple of days ago that I prefer being comfortable and stylish when I travel, which is how this outfit came to be.  These Rockstar jeans from Old Navy are ridiculously comfortable and feel like leggings, so wearing them on the plane is kind of a no brainer for me.  I also thought this sweater would be a great traveling piece because it's warm but not bulky, and it layers nicely underneath my green jacket.  And again, I added my coral scarf for some color and additional warmth as I return to the icy tundra of Minnesota.

I'm eager to write a trip recap for you all soon that details some of the things that Casey and I did together while I spent the weekend in Charlotte.  Until then, I'll be posting more of my 30x30 outfits here every day!  We're already 5 days in - so far, so good!

30x30: Clothes Are Hard

Everything: Old Navy [What can I say? I love Old Navy!]

[I'm still in Charlotte, but I took my outfit photos before I left.  When I return, I'll be doing a recap of my trip!]

So, I've been blogging for just about a year now, but I've been reading style blogs for about four years. I have a confession to make.  It wasn't until this fall that I really started layering button ups and cardigans like I did in this outfit.  For some ridiculous reason, I thought it would look stupid on me.  I also couldn't figure out how to make the sleeves not bunchy.  Really, though, it's not that hard.  I remember asking Audrey at one point if she would give an explanation about how she layered her shirts and cardigans.  How embarrassing!  Oh well - I'm glad I "figured it out" for myself, because now I can't stop layering my button ups and cardigans!

30x30: A Magenta Popover

Shirt / Jeans / Flats: Old Navy Necklace: From my mom

[I'm still in Charlotte, but I took my outfit photos before I left.  When I return, I'll be doing a recap of my trip!]

Today's outfit is fairly simple, but I knew I wanted to wear something easy while on my trip.  This magenta popover is bold, so I kept the rest of the outfit more muted with my dark blue Rockstar jeans, cognac flats, and a simple pendant necklace.  My flats are super comfortable, which is perfect for a day of walking around Charlotte.

30x30: Dressed for a Plane Ride

Dress / Cardigan / Leggings: Old Navy Jacket: JCPenney Scarf: Birthday gift from my parents Boots: Guess Belt: Came on a different dress

As you're reading this, I'm on my way to Charlotte, NC to visit my dear friend Casey!  I bought my plane tickets back in October, so we've been waiting for such a long time for this day to arrive!  This is my first time in the Carolinas, and I couldn't be more excited to explore the area with Casey and her husband, Chris.

Casey and I both happen to have this polka dot chambray dress, and a while back, we joked about how funny it would be if we were wearing it at the same time.  It wasn't until I started packing for my trip that I realized that this dress would actually be a great dress to bring along with me.  It's incredibly comfortable, doesn't wrinkle easily, and layers nicely.  I thought it would be a great dress to travel in as well.  I'm not the kind of person who wears sloppy clothes on an airplane, but I'm certainly not the kind of person to wear heels and a suit either.  This dress is a happy medium - comfortable enough to be worn for the 3 hour flight, but cute enough that I can hop off the plane and start exploring Charlotte with Casey.

I wanted to dress in layers as well, since I usually fluctuate between freezing cold and sweating on airplanes.  My cardigan covers my arms (the dress is sleeveless), and the green jacket provides another barrier against the cold (especially since I'm starting my trip in frigid Minnesota!).  I love the pop of color from my coral scarf, which also serves as another way to keep me warm and cozy.

I'll be back tomorrow with another outfit!

30x30: Muted Stripes and Leopard

Tee / Jeans: Old Navy Cardigan: Target Boots: Guess Scarf: From my mom

Happy New Year, everyone!  I hope you had a wonderful evening holiday season.  Our holidays were busy, but it was nice to spend time with family and friends.  Since we've been so busy running around from place to place, we decided to have a low-key New Year's Eve last night by playing a game of dominos and heading to bed by 10:30 [who are we, and when did we turn 55 years old??].  Anyone do anything less exciting than us?! :)

Here's my first outfit for the 30x30 challenge!  It has been so cold here in Minnesota lately, so I decided to bundle up with a long-sleeved tee with thin camel and white stripes and my cream cardigan.  I'm wearing my new Rockstar jeans (these are dark blue denim, but they look black in the photo) as well.  I included a little subtle pattern-mixing here, with the stripes on my tee and the leopard print scarf.  I like how the outfit turned out!

I am going to be out of town for the next couple of days.  One of my dearest friends, Casey, lives in Charlotte, and I am going out to visit her and her husband!  Casey and I were best friends throughout middle school and when her family moved after our 9th grade year, we were both so sad.  We've stayed in contact, and finally (over 10 years later...), I am making the trip out to see her.  I can't wait!  I'll still be doing the 30x30 challenge while I'm gone.  I have already put together my outfits and taken photos of them, so I'll still be posting for the challenge.  I'll be sure to put together a trip recap when I'm back as well!
